This study was conducted with the aim of designing and analyzing a conceptual model of nascent entrepreneurial intentions, emphasizing social dimensions and the effects of the Dark Triad personality traits in the context of South Khorasan Science and Technology Park.
The main objective of this research is to examine the complex interactions between personality traits (both positive and negative) and social dimensions in the formation of entrepreneurial intentions among individuals. In this study, a qualitative approach based on Grounded Theory and selective coding was employed. The analysis ultimately resulted in the identification of 10 selective codes, 25 axial codes, and 128 open codes.
Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 founders of startup companies located in South Khorasan Science and Technology Park. The interviews continued until theoretical saturation was reached.
The findings revealed that personality traits, particularly the Dark Triad traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy), can have differential effects on the formation of entrepreneurial intentions and motivations among individuals in companies based in the park. These traits, especially in competitive environments where achieving personal goals is prioritized, tend to increase the inclination to start a business. However, they may create ethical and social challenges in the long term and negatively affect business sustainability.
Additionally, social support and social networks within the local culture of South Khorasan play a significant role in strengthening entrepreneurial intentions. The results of this study emphasize the need for balance between social dimensions and personality traits. They can serve as a useful tool for researchers and policymakers at South Khorasan Science and Technology Park in designing supportive and educational interventions.
